Is Cannes Only for Those in the Film Industry?

The Cannes Film Festival is definitely known for creating a space for filmmakers, creatives, and actors to group and witness some of the greatest films ever made. It is appropriately the world's most prestigious film gathering and has evolved into a well-known cultural event. The festival was born in 1938 through Phillipe Erlanger. The idea was suspended during wartime and later picked up by Jean Zay and Albert Sarrault before it morphed into what we know it as today: a beautiful exhibition of film and creativity. The prestigious event has a long and extensive history, and it has morphed with humanity through every era, from the Malraux Years to the Modern Era.

The Cannes Film Festival is not just a gathering for actors and directors. It's a melting pot of talent, attracting individuals from various industries such as music, modeling, journalism, and more, making it a truly diverse and inclusive event.

Some of the best looks at the festival this year were held by those with little to do with the film industry. Our primary example is Bella Hadid in a Saint Laurent naked dress, which combined a halter look with a knotted pantyhose bodice. The ex-model and businesswomen stunned the Cannes carpet in this piece. Hadid absolutely took inspiration from Old Hollywood allure, and we have seen a lot of neutral tones from her lately, especially when promoting her new brand, Orəbella. The look speaks to her impact in the fashion industry, making her a great candidate for this year's Cannes best-dressed, even considering her lack of presence in the film industry.

Another non-film-related character stunned us on the carpet this year: Alton Mason. Mason is an American model and was the first black model to walk for Chanel in 2018. The model has taken the world by storm in the past few years; some of his achievements include receiving a Male Model of the Year through Australian Vogue and making the Forbes 30 Under 30 List. His attendance at Cannes this year was not understated, as he graced us with a beautiful piece by LGN Louis Gabriel.

Naomi Campbell, styled by Law Roach, wowed us in many ways, not only on the red carpet but throughout the week with many looks. It is no secret that not only the film industry but also general fame is generally reserved for younger spectacles, but Naomi remains timeless and has become the main event of the carpet. From head to toe, she looks fabulous and deserves recognition for the pieces she showcased at Cannes 2024. She showcased a timeless Chanel look and added to her Cannes legacy with a beautiful teal gown by Loewe.

Campbell, especially at her age, has reminded us that Red Carpets are for a lot more than just promoting films and that they are a display of personality, expression, creativity, and the spectacle that is the entire fashion industry.

There were so many more looks that made a beautiful impact at the festival this year, and it remains clear that Cannes will not only remain an exhibition for the creative, directors, actors and actresses, cinephiles, and those who work in fashion, bringing us the looks of the season and many, many more. Cannes is a vessel for bringing industries together in the most cohesive ways.
