Runway Rundown: 2025 Cruise Collections

In the fashion world, a mere four seasons simply isn’t enough. A cruise collection, also known as a resort collection, is a pre-season line produced by the top fashion houses as an addition to their latest seasonal collections. These cruise collections cater to a special type of customer: the jet-setters and trendsetters who have already completed their seasonal wardrobes and are now looking for pieces for their next vacation, or cruise. These collections typically feature unique designs with flowing silhouettes and bold patterns. Some may call it excessive, but for fashion connoisseurs like myself, it simply means more fashion shows and collections to analyze and review. All aboard! Below are some highlights from the 2025 cruise collections thus far.

Christian Dior

Set in the gardens of Drummond Castle in Scotland, Models strutted down the runway in Dior’s latest collection to the haunting yet harmonious sounds of bagpipes. The 2025 cruise collection is inspired by Dior and Scotland’s intertwined history. In 1955, Christian Dior presented a show in the ballroom of the Scottish Gleneagles Hotel and this is where the legendary French fashion house truly got its name. Creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri brings a refreshing look for Dior with this collection, which screams punk revivalleather accessories, armor-inspired corsets, chokers, biker boots, patchwork-adorned jackets, and plaid, everywhere

To honor Scotland further, Chiuri collaborated with local artisans to craft the collection’s tweeds, cashmere, and accessories, adding an extra layer of allure. Up close, the collection continues to amaze, with intricate details such as embroidery and patchwork referencing the 1955 Dior show and Scotland's rich history. This collection serves as an unexpected, yet tasteful new look for Dior.

Louis Vuitton

Fashion moguls and A-listers gathered in Barcelona to attend the much-anticipated unveiling of Louis Vuitton’s 2025 cruise collection. Paying homage to Spanish artists, including architect Antoni Gaudí, the collection debuted at the utmost perfect location, Gaudí’s stunning Park Güell. While other heels may have graced the limestone of this historic landmark before, Louis Vuitton is the first-ever fashion brand to hold a show at the world-renowned park.

The 36 looks in this collection subtly nod to Gaudí’s architectural style, from floral motifs inspired by his signature mosaics to drapery that reflect the fluidity in his architecture. Many of the looks are reminiscent of the 1980s, with broad shoulders, voluminous gowns, and bubble skirts. As Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière stated, “There is nothing casual about this collection.” It avoids the typical commercialized and practical side of fashion, reminding us that fashion, like Gaudí’s architecture, is a form of art.

Chanel

Celebs may have had to bring umbrellas to Chanel’s latest show and wait out a weather delay, but the 2025 cruise collection radiated its own form of sunshine. Set in Marseille, France—a city known for its turquoise waters, architecture, and vibrant culture—Chanel’s Creative Director drew deep inspiration from Marseille’s sense of freedom. “I was inspired by the codes of lifestyle, of everyday life, and by all the things that invite movement,” Viard stated regarding her collection’s inspiration.

With colorful splashes of Chanel’s classic tweed and seaside motifs, this collection is flooded with references to Marseille and Viard’s memories of growing up in France. The models sported chic one-piece swimsuits, hooded wet suits, open-works knits, and white lace gowns. While staying true to Chanel’s DNA, this collection shifts away from the bold glamor we’ve seen previously and towards a more understated look—with smaller and more thoughtful details throughout.
